Many sincere apologies to anyone who was looking for the Monday Hymn. For this week only it is the Thursday Hymn!
Last Sunday in church we gave thanks to God for his goodness and provision as we celebrated Harvest. The weather this past year has not been great, and I am sure that many people wondered if there would be a harvest at all this year. But there was, and the church was decorated with plenty of fresh produce to prove it. Living in a rural community, as we do, we are getting the sense of how important a good harvest is.
We sung a number of hymns celebrating God’s goodness and faithfulness, but as far as I am concerned this one sums things up perfectly:
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
“Great is Thy faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!”
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
