Monday Morning Hymn

One of the most popular songs of the last few years has been “Light of the World” by Tim Hughes. I’m sure that the words are based on what the Apostle Paul wrote: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that sthough he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9 ESV.

Here we are told that Jesus came down from the heaven to earth- he stepped down from that light of glory to the darkness of this world. He left the riches of heaven to come in poverty into this world. And the reason for this? That he might bring us, through his death and resurrection, into a relationship with God. Our sin was placed upon him as he died on the cross “I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross.”

Our response – to worship and bow down.

Light of the world you stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes let me see
Beauty that makes this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with You

So here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that your my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

King of all days
Oh so highly exalted
Glorious in Heaven above
Humbly You came to the earth you created
All for love’s sake became poor

I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross
I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross
